Triptych

In 2002 multimedia performers Salamander Tandem were creating shows in Nottingham, U.K. They are an inspiring group of women, involved in dance and performance, as visual researchers and performers, they create both dynamic creative expressions and fascinating multimedia shows. The images from Triptych, focus on movement in constructed space and the layers of space, that are here multi dimensional, depicting both confined and fluid elements. The groups use of containers to confine and expand their movement is deliberate & breath taking. The Gamelan resounded through the space with vibrant wooden resonance and tone -REi

The Leominster Cathedral took on a unique Gothic backdrop for the performance, as the movement opened up questions of ‘Sacred Space’ and the female figure in religion and art. The Gamelan a subtly resonant percussion instrument was used to set the scene, along with projections and perspex cubes mirroring the interiors of the triptych. The light and shadows in the vast space was selective, in the images there was internal and external lighting, creating contrast, and accenting the medieval architecture setting a dramatic tone, illuminating height and breadth of ancient space, rich in myth and history.
