A journal on being, exploring, and creating space

As a photographer, educator, and artist, I find inspiration in the places that allow pause and reflection. This journal explores a narrative yearning for open space, places we are close and open to, and those we are still discovering, perhaps in an expression of being humbled.

On this Island, I am struck by the beauty of ‘returning’ to nature- in the forests, streams, rivers, and the magnificent waters that surround us, simplicity resides close by. I speak of the architecture, history, and presence of old homesteads and their structure, and indeed the gloaming and the lighthouses... While exploring the spaces in between, whether wild nature or where the manmade and nature meet, an old trail or piles of rocks. In observation, each seems to hold a presence, and respect for the terrain. Like a reflective mind, simply ‘witnessing space’ the places often find me.

“ In the historic homes, walking the old red dirt (earth) roads, on the old farms and the barns, looking out over the Northumberland Strait or the great expanses, where the fields are rolling, or the sky blue where clouds bloom— the places the artist or writer find a pulse, by listening to the quiet. Where the synapses draw the lines and form connections with a creative eye, the silence speaks of the spaces in between”.
